What is the Czech School in Canberra planning for Term 4
For those who don’t know me yet, let me introduce myself. My name is Ilona Kašpárková and I recently became a principal of our little but growing Czech School in Canberra. We opened the school just a year ago and we have already had 24 students of all ages (from 5 to 60 years old) split into 8 Czech courses. We basically cover all levels of Czech language from total beginners up to almost native Czech speakers. I currently know about at least new 5 students who are thinking of joining us.
As soon as I come back from my holiday (at the end of September), we would like to open some new courses, such as a learning group for Czech Preschoolers (3-5 yrs old), mainly for the children who have none or basic knowledge of Czech, who cannot read and write yet. This group will be focused on singing Czech well known songs, learning easy words and Czech alphabet through play, storytelling, art and craft.
One of the biggest news I am delighted to share with you is extending Czech school by Slovak courses, that we would become Czech and Slovak School in Canberra. The biggest interest is currently among the Slovak parents of the children mostly between 2-6 years. We would like you to hear more from Slovak community. Spread the words, please, tell everyone. If we have enough children we can open small courses for older children or even for Slovak adults.
There are some other news I am happy to share. We will most likely welcome Katka Mikulíková back in our school. She is currently waiting for her visa to come back. We have also extended an amount of classrooms and Beseda was so generous and reconstructed them. The walls in the classrooms are only waiting for decorations (the Czech and Slovak grammar, visual vocabulary and posters for students, the student’s displayed work, etc.)
We are also planning to organize a weekend camp for the Czech and Slovak children. It will probably happen in October. But check your emails, we will let you know.
